Spacelab Mission Development Test (SMD III)
The Spacelab Mission Development Test (SMD III) was the third in a series of ground-based studies designed to test logistics and management procedures for future Life Sciences space experiments. It was a collaborative project between Johnson Space Center and Ames Research Center.
In May 1977, a crew of three (Dr. Thornton, Dr. Bill Williams, and Dr. Carter Alexander) conducted 26 experiments and 12 operational tests during the seven day simulation.
