Abstract

History of push to create blood donor stamps in the United States.

Description

An idea to create stamps commemorating blood donor programs was approved by President Roosevelt in 1945 but, due to both his death and the end of World War II, it wasn't created. The first US stamp promoting blood donations was released in 1971.<br></br><br></br>Included is a copy of an article by Drs. Robert A. Kyle and Irving J. Wolman: "Blood Transfusion and Philately: Encouraging the Post Office to Honor Blood Donors" <em>Clinical Pediatrics</em> Vol. 7 No. 10 October 1968.
